Chris Lawless

CEO/Co-Founder

Chris Lawless is co-founder and CEO of ViviHealth. Mr. Lawless is a successful technology executive and venture capitalist with a passion to help people with addiction. He is inspired to apply technology and the latest artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) techniques to the challenges faced by so many struggling with addiction. Previously he served in multiple executive capacities for Intel Corporation, including Director, External Customer Acceleration and leading the Pre-Silicon Platforms Acceleration Division where he helped Intel capture revenue upside and deliver more products faster; Director of Strategic Investments, Security Practice for Intel Capital, Intel’s venture capital division managing a global $250M enterprise and internet security portfolio, served on numerous boards and invested in and exited companies such as: NetScaler (acquired by Citrix Systems, Inc. [CTXS] for $300M), Oblix (acquired by Oracle Corporation [ORCL] for $100M), DataSynapse (acq’d by Tibco Software, Inc. [TIBX]), Sanctum (acq’d by Watchfire Corporation), NextPage (acq’d by Fast Search & Transfer), SignaCert (acq’d by Harris Corp [HRS]), Credant Technologies (acq’d by DELL), Crossbeam Systems (acq’d by Blue Coat), and Sinosun (China-based); served as a founding executive of Intel’s Internet Media Services, an audio/video/data streaming business; a key designer and product marketer of Intel’s ProShare® Videoconferencing solution, the world’s first PC-based commercial vidconf product;

Across his career, he served in various leadership roles, including SVP Corporate Development & Marketing for Signacert, a venture-backed upstart Security firm; CEO of Vector Teknologies, a software products upstart, and; Managing Director, HunterWise Financial Group.

Mr. Lawless is the co-inventor of five technology patents. He graduated from the University of Maryland where he received his Bachelors of Science degree in Business. He enjoys private piloting, traveling and time with family.

David Lau

Director, Product Management

David Lau is Director of Product Management for ViviHealth. He is responsible for all aspects of  product definition, development and technology solutions. Prior to ViviHealth, David was the CTO for Allied Affiliated Funding, where he implemented new technologies to improve productivity, business continuity and cyber security. David has a strong background in systems engineering, customer interfacing and product life cycle management with both small and large corporate process exposure. He has start-up, corporate and international experience, as well as expertise in the financial, defense, telecommunications and computer industries.

Prior to joining Allied, David was the Co-Founder and President of Dallas-based System Solutions Group, Inc., where he managed a staff placement, consulting and custom development company for the Internet and telecom industry. He built a start-up business that generated $1 million revenue in the first 18 months, securing a major contract with Verizon. This company was successfully acquired by another telecom business he co-founded where he developed sales of over $2 million and generated proposals of over $60 million in new business opportunities. Prior to that, he worked as a Senior Systems Engineer for Texas Instruments for over 18 years.

David has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and graduate work in Computer Science at Southern Methodist University. He also holds various patents. David enjoys spending time with friends and family, cycling, traveling, photography, reading, cooking, and trying out new restaurants and cuisines.

Andrew Merz

Data Scientist

Andrew Merz was born in Colorado Springs and grew up in several locations across the United States, including South Florida and Central Pennsylvania.  He graduated from Bucknell University with majors in physics and political science.  After graduation, Andrew worked at Geisinger Health System as a data analyst, supporting the Autism and Developmental Medicine Institute.  In this role, he helped design a web-based database of genetic variants associated with neurodevelopmental disorders, assessed the effectiveness of an autism screening tool, and supported the creation of a triage tool for the institute.  Later, Andrew served as a healthcare consultant for The Innova Group, using his data analysis skills to recommend revisions to the Department of Defense’s medical facility space planning criterion. 

As Data Scientist at ViviHealth, Andrew’s work centers around the creation and support of the Insight Engine.  In this role, he leverages various statistical and data mining methods to derive novel insights from healthcare data.  Andrew also supports the development of predictive algorithms used to help clinicians rapidly understand patient status and the effects of various treatment options. 

Outside of work, Andrew enjoys maintaining an active lifestyle, including hiking, martial arts, and training for various running races around Austin, TX.  He also enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Dr. Jes Montgomery

Chief Medical Director/Co-Founder

Dr. Jes Montgomery has worked in addiction for over 30 years, as well as practicing recovery from a personal and family perspective. The foundational concept for ViviHealth’s solutions is the result of a 15-year search for objective ways to engage recovery beyond simply detecting relapse. He has advocated for innovative and new approaches to fundamentally change how recovery treatment is accomplished.  

With the advent of less intrusive and more efficient technology, the unique ViviHealth solutions are leveraging the new tide of technology development and fostering the treatment and long-term recovery of its users. 

Dr. Montgomery received his M.D. from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in 1979 and attained certification in the American Society on Addiction Medicine in 1987. He is a diplomat of both the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Addiction Medicine and has worked in the treatment of addiction since 1987.  Dr. Montgomery has served as Lead Psychiatrist and Medical Director of nationally known treatment providers, including Sante Center for Healing, Pine Grove Behavioral and Addictions and Serenity View Recovery Center.  In addition, he maintains a limited private practice of Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine.

Marketing Director

With a background in advertising, video production, content production, digital marketing, interactive technologies, and storytelling, John brings a diverse range of experience to ViviHealth.

Prior to ViviHealth, John was a Digital Strategist and Manager for Sherry Matthews Group, where he developed digital strategies and award-winning digital marketing campaigns for the Texas Department of Transportation including Talk, Text, Crash; Faces of Drunk Driving; Labor Day impaired driving prevention; Drive Clean Texas; and TxTag, as well as programs for the Washington State Department of Transportation. He also developed digital marketing for the Texas Department of State Health Services’ Tobacco Public Awareness campaigns and Breastmilk. Every Ounce Counts. Campaign.

His client roster has included the MD Anderson Proton Therapy Center, Baylor Scott and White Health Clinics, the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health’s We Rise campaign, the Texas Health Steps online provider education program, Texas WIC, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, The Fund for Public Health in New York City, and the City of Austin.

Prior to Sherry Matthews Group, John served as a digital media manager, digital producer and experience designer, overseeing display and CPC media campaigns and the development and production of gaming installations at The Field Museum in Chicago, the National Corvette Museum, and Scholastic’s Harry Potter.

John has 10 years of experience as an actor, performed in Chicago and New York City with TBS-TV, and was trained by Mike O’Brien from Saturday Night Live and Michael McCarthy, a former writer for Sesame Street and Saturday Night Live. He currently co-hosts Backyard Story Night, a large monthly storytelling event in Austin.

Senior Software Engineer

Andrew Anderson grew up in New Hampshire. He attended Southern New Hampshire University where he majored in Information Technologies with a concentration in Software Development. Currently, he is enrolled in an Invited MBA program in Austin. In previous roles, Andrew has managed developers, developed technical sales training programs and designed and built systems used globally.

As a Senior Software Engineer focused on Front-End Development, Andrew’s work centers on creating and supporting ViviHealth’s mobile application needs. In this role, he leverages the latest technologies to build beautiful and performant mobile applications. 

Outside of work, Andrew enjoys actively participating in local sports leagues in basketball and soccer. He also enjoys blogging and contributing to open source technology when he is not discovering Austin with his family.

Dr. Randy Goodall

Engineering & Clinical Research Director

Randy Goodall joined ViviHealth in 2020, bringing strategic thinking grounded in hands-on experience gained over a long career of technical and executive leadership positions in physics, software/systems engineering, semiconductor R&D, industry standardization and economic modeling, and FDA-regulated medical devices.  He will be building on his life-long focus of discovering the utmost value within data and building in his understanding of the quality/regulatory demands on healthcare products.

Randy Goodall received his BS in Physics from Caltech and his PhD in Physics from the University of Oregon.  He gravitated to startups and smaller teams where the innovation-rich environment supports his passion to impact people’s lives.  Randy joined the R&D consortium SEMATECH to be a member of an internal startup team driving the world’s first cooperative technology transition, saving the industry $1B. Subsequently on the executive staff, Randy worked to win $280M of leveraged funding for R&D programs in New York and Texas; managed $10M in university research; and developed $9M in state awards for nanofabrication equipment and nanotechnology internship training.

Randy left SEMATECH to become founder, CEO, and CTO of NanoMedical Systems, raising nearly $20 million in equity, development fees, and grant funding and leading the development of a world-class, implantable drug delivery platform – now being commercialized as a revolutionary product.  Randy is an inventor on many of the company’s patents.

Randy is an author on dozens scientific papers and has spoken to and co-authored a number of white papers for industry, state, and federal leaders, agencies, and committees.  Married for 34 years with kids and grandkids, Randy plays guitar for relaxation and enjoys teaching, poetry, philosophy, and cooking.

Architect & Senior Engineer

David Lesnefsky grew up in Eynon Pennsylvania, a suburb of Scranton. He attended Ithaca College where he majored in Computer Science with minors in Mathematics and Physics.  Following graduation, David worked at Blizzard Entertainment as a software engineer. Primarily focusing on the World of Warcraft web experience, he contributed greatly to scaling existing apps and developing a new service-oriented architecture.

David strongly believes that technology can be used in the healthcare field to improve outcomes. He joined ViviHealth in 2019, where he took on the role of Senior Backend Engineer. His main responsibilities include architecting all backend systems, developing APIs, managing ViviHealth’s Kubernetes cluster, and contributing to our many data pipelines. He is a vocal advocate for best engineering practices at ViviHealth including strong documentation, testing, and continuous deployment.

In his free time, David enjoys playing soccer and beach volleyball. Skiing is also a passion of his having grown up in the Northeast where he frequented Montage and Elk Mountain. David is very close with his family and friends. He thoroughly enjoys spending his time surrounded by them and leans on them for support and advice.

Dr. David Eddie

Advisor

Dr. David Eddie is a research scientist at the Recovery Research Institute, and a clinical and research fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He completed his Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Rutgers University’s Center of Alcohol Studies where he investigated neurobiological vulnerabilities that heighten risk for the development of dependence on alcohol and other drugs, as well as processes that maintain addictive disorders once they arise. He continues this research at Massachusetts General Hospital’s Recovery Research Institute where he is presently investigating potential biomarkers of alcohol use disorder relapse risk. He is also interested in addiction treatment and recovery processes, as well as drug and treatment policy, and is membership, and conference program chair for the American Psychological Association’s Society of Addiction Psychology.

Clay Tramel

Clay Tramel is the Chairman and Co-Founder of ViviHealth. Mr. Tramel is a successful businessman who has a personal and family history of addiction, and is familiar with the damage it causes. This experience resulted in a passion to find a better way to treat addiction than is currently available. He has devoted much of his efforts over the past several years to researching and finding innovative approaches to treating addiction that aims to significantly improve historical treatment outcomes. Mr. Tramel’s insider perspective brings multiple and unique dimensions to the problem space. He knows by experience that encouraging transparency and accountability, two critical elements required for a successful recovery, drives a more effective approach to treatment.  

Mr. Tramel built a world-class financial company over the past decade which was recently acquired in an highly successful transaction.  Mr. Tramel is considered a visionary at recognizing industry trends and creating successful businesses that capitalize on those trends. His successes span several industries, including commercial finance, telecom, banking, commercial real estate, and several others. 

ViviHealth is Mr. Tramel’s most inspiring endeavor; poised to significantly improve the lives of thousands of people suffering from addiction. Mr. Tramel hopes that this company and its solutions will be his legacy.

Philip Waltrip has worked for Allied Affiliated Funding since 1995 initially as their CPA, then officially joining the team in 2008 as Chief Financial Officer. Today, Philip is the Chief Credit Officer for Allied. 

He has over 25 years of experience in management, with expertise in accounting, tax, mergers and acquisitions, human resources, workouts, and as an advisor in civil litigations. Philip has worked or has been an advisor for several businesses through his career all in different industries including manufacturing, factoring, consumer finance, construction, healthcare nursing, pharmacies and infusion care, staffing, oil and gas, real estate, cattle, helicopter, airline, advertising, public relations and many others. 

As Allied’s Chief Credit Officer, Philip is responsible for the overall credit risk and analysis for the factoring and ABL division of Axiom Bank N.A. He is actively involved in working with new and existing clients as well, often meeting with them throughout the year and visiting their operations. Philip has a Bachelor’s in Business Administration with an emphasis on accounting, graduating from the University of Texas at Dallas. He also has his CPA license. Philip enjoys golfing, traveling and spending time with his family and their dog, Bear.
